Senior Picture Outfit
What outfit should I wear? The number one question I hear from seniors when they are getting ready to take their senior pictures. Your outfit choice is what makes your senior pictures truly your own and there are lots of different things your outfit will say about yourself. Your senior pictures is the grand finale of your high school career so you want to be sure you pick outfits that show off exactly who you are. When taking senior pictures, you want to choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and comfortable, while also reflecting your personal style and personality. Here are some tips to help you choose the best outfits for your senior pictures:
  1. Avoid trendy outfits that may look dated in a few years. Instead, opt for classic styles that will stand the test of time. I love classic sun dresses or jeans and a cute top. I’m always excited when I see the iconic little black dress. All of these kinds of outfits never go out of style. Even when you look back in ten years, you’ll be so happy with the outfits you chose. If you choose something very trendy to wear, you might like that pick now, but in that same ten years, you might not be as excited about your outfit choice. Stay with the classics, you’ll be happy you did!
  2. Wear colors that complement your skin tone and bring out your eyes. Neutral colors like black, white, gray, and beige are always a safe bet, but don't be afraid to add a pop of color to your outfit. Wear colors you know make your eyes pop or go for a color that you have worn before and know you love. I would also consider the background and the colors you choose to wear. If you have lots of greenery in the background, maybe go for neutrals or colors that compliment green. If you are in a subtle corn field go for more colors. The most important thing I can say about the colors you choose to wear is this… wear the colors you love! If you love orange, then find a cute orange dress and rock it. Even if orange “isn’t your color” if you love it, feel confident in it and are excited to wear it then guess what girl? Orange is your color!!
  3. Consider the location and time of day for your photoshoot when choosing your outfit. If you take pictures in the middle of the day in the summer, it will be hot outside. Don’t opt for your favorite sweater that day because you won’t be comfortable. If you aren’t comfortable then it will show in your pictures. Instead, choose a cute sun dress or shorts and a blouse. Dress for the weather. You will always like the outcome of your pictures better if you do. I love fall pictures, but again, the weather will be a little more brisk. Don’t wear a flowy light weight dress and shiver the entire time. Instead, go for a sweater dress with leggings and boots. Location is also important to think about. I love sun dresses but if you’re going to be outside, be sure you’re able to move around in it comfortably.
  4. 4.Don't forget about accessories! Jewelry, hats, scarves, and other accessories can add interest and personality to your photos. Be sure the jewelry you pick doesn’t overwhelm the outfit though. An accessory should just add to the outfit not outdo it. My favorite accessory is shoes. Shoes are the finishing touch to to every outfit. You can really do a lot with a simple pair of shoes. Want to have a simple accent, add a beige color heel to a bold sundress. Want to make a statement? Choose a bright chunky heel with a classic pair of skinny jeans and a sweater. Shoes can just make an outfit come together in so many ways. A word of caution though, be sure you can wear those heels comfortably. If you aren’t a heel girl, you don’t have to wear them. Wear what is comfortable and what makes you feel good. But if you really want a heel in your picture, wear them ahead of time and get used to them before your photo shoot.
  5. Senior pictures are so exciting and picking out the outfits for your pictures can be just as exciting. You need to remember a few simple things when picking your outfits. Colors, accessories and location are all pieces of the puzzle you need to keep in mind. But the most important thing you need to remember is this…the most important thing is to choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Choose an outfit you love and makes you feel happy to wear. Choose an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks because if you do that, you can relax and enjoy the photoshoot completely. It will show in your pictures when you are happy, laid back and having fun.
