Do you want to know one thing that is unique and really memorable when you get your senior pictures taken at Sarah Lindsay Photography? Let me fill you in… when you show up for your photo shoot, our glam specialist is there to help get you ready for your amazing senior photo shoot. Your hair and makeup get professionally done and the goal is to help you look and feel your absolute best. Now, I don’t want to speak for her because she is in fact the professional. Instead, let’s have her answer a few questions and fill you in on what to expect and how the process happens. Let me introduce our glam specialist, Jessica. Thank you so much Jessica for meeting with me and answering questions for our seniors. I appreciate you taking the time and without further ado, here is what Jessica had to say! How long have you been doing hair and makeup?“ I have been doing hair and makeup for 12 years.” Jessica has an abundance of experience and knowledge. You are in good hands when you come to the studio for your senior pictures. With that many years under her belt, it’s clear to say that anything you are looking for, Jessica can deliver. I can understand some girls being a little nervous about getting hair and makeup done, especially if they have never had it done before, but with Jessica’s experience and care, you won’t be disappointed. This experience will hopefully be a really memorable and special time. What do you love so much about doing hair and makeup?I am always so excited to hear why people do what they do. Usually their answer conveys passion and joy for what they do and Jessica is no exception. She says, “what I love most about doing hair and makeup the ability to make people feel their best self. And for the confidence it gives people when they feel good.” Giving back to others and taking care of others is the best gift we can give each other and I felt really moved by Jessica’s answer. She was so genuine and I could tell really enjoys helping others. Tell me about the process when girls come in for their senior pictures. Do they tell you specifically what they’re looking for or just a general idea?Jessica told me about the process she generally uses for hair and makeup for the day of senior photos. She says, “I like to ask the girls how they want to look, then we usually go from there. If they have [inspirational] photos that’s the best because then they can tell me what they like and what they don’t like. But most of the girls that we do really like to have that natural look. Next, I analyze the skin and decide on how I need to prep the skin and what colors I want to use. Then when it comes to hair, I like to start by feeling the hair. I am a big touch person so feeling the hair and figuring out what it wants to do and asking them if their hair holds curl well or if there is any certain things I need to know about it.” I like that Jessica takes all things into consideration and really asks the girls for direction. Jessica is definitely someone who wants to hear what you want and don’t want to be sure you tell her what is on your mind and she will be sure you feel your absolute best! HOw long does hair/ makeup take?I get asked this question a lot and Jessica is definitely the best person to answer just because she knows hair and makeup better than anyone. She said, “on average, hair and makeup will take about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the look and the amount of hair they have.” Be sure to enjoy this time. The photos are fun and the reason you are here but the whole day is part of the experience so during hair and makeup, relax and soak each minute in. What are your top three tips for hair and makeup to look perfect for senior pictures? This was my favorite question for Jessica. Girls always come to me and want to know how to make their hair and makeup look flawless for the day. From what Jessica said, it’s not only what happens that day but the lead up in days prior to your photo shoot. Jessica said her top three tips for hair and makeup are, “first, come with confidence. Know what you want to do and don’t be afraid to ask for it. If there is something that you don’t like, speak up. That’s the best way to get exactly what you want out of the process. Number two, make sure you have clean, fresh skin with no remnants of makeup on it as well as clean, dry hair. If you know your hair holds curl the best on second day, please do that. And number three, skin care is a must. Taking care of your skin before having senior pictures will show in the photos completely. Make sure you’ve exfoliated. Breakouts are fine, they happen. We can cover those up and Sarah can photo shop as well. But make sure your overall face of skin looks really nice and hydrated is the ultimate way to get the most out of you photos.” Thank you again Jessica for helping me out and answering some questions for our incoming seniors.
