how to beat the heat

Summertime photo sessions are here and wrapping up but there is still one thing that is so present. The heat! Summertime pictures are always so perfect. The sun, blue sky and gorgeous scenery. But the heat can definitely put a damper on your senior picture photo session. So I wanted to write a blog to talk about the heat and how to make the day a little easier when it’s so hot outside.
1. Bring water: The first and easiest tip for you to stay comfortable in the heat would be to bring water. Lots of water. I love the insulated water bottles so you can bring ice water to your photo session and the water will stay cold. I’d be sure to bring at least two water bottles but extra doesn’t hurt. Sometimes people bring along a cooler. The cooler stays in the car then you have access to tons of water and other yummy cool drinks throughout the day. If the weather report is predicting a really hot day maybe this is the better way to go. Then as an added bonus, you can put some snacks in your cooler- snacks and water together on a hot summer day… what’s better?

2. Shade is key: When you’re out on a hot summer day taking pictures, the sunshine is what you want. Beautiful weather and amazing scenery. But here is the thing, you’ll always need to cool down. That sun will make you turn red and over heating is a thing. So shade is what you want. Whether your location has natural shade or not the best thing to bring is an umbrella. Always have one with you so when the sun gets too hot or you need a break to cool off, you can take a quick second under the umbrella and then come back to your pictures refreshed. The umbrella will also be a great place for makeup retouches or a quick snack. Anytime you can get out of the sun you will feel much better.

3. If there is water, get in!: Most outside locations will have water- especially if you choose a location that is a farm or mountain area. Here is the thing, this tip will not work for everyone. Not everyone will choose a location with water, but if you are going to have a location with water there, take advantage. Let’s take pictures of you in the water. Play, splash… Anything you can do to get in the water and cool off will not only give you gorgeous and timeless pictures but it will also give you a little break from the heat of the sun. I love these kinds of pictures because they are so unique but timeless all at the same time. If it’s not for you that’s ok… Just being by the water is not only pretty but will immediately help you cool off.

Hopefully these tips help you beat the heat during your summer senior picture photo shoot. Are you ready?? Spots are really filling up and school has already started! It’s not or never for senior pictures class of 2024. Let’s get you on the schedule!
