Just the other day I was looking back at both my high school senior pictures and my college senior pictures. Seeing them always brings back the most fond memories and can take me instantly back to that time period. Truly believe that this is because of the outfits that I wore and the experience I had in my senior pictures. I remember thinking before each of these shoots about how I wanted my clothes to capture me, but also my accomplishments. It was hard for me to decide how many outfits to choose to fully capture the authentic me while also not feeling rushed in each outfit.
For me, I was always so concerned with how many outfits I would get and not necessarily the little details of senior pictures. (Don't worry if that's you too, friends of mine have admitted it also :) It's an important topic!) So, below there are some tips and tricks to deciding how many outfits you should plan for your senior photoshoot. Some General Guidelines
As a general guideline, Sarah Lindsay suggests four or five different outfits for a two hour photoshoot. This gives us plenty of time to capture different images in each outfit. The four or five outfits gives you a chance to have different looks. Because, come on, we all have different looks for different occasions that capture the authentic us in each experience. You might want some formal, casual, and sporty pictures because those are all you! We want enough outfits to fully capture you.
Also, this number of outfits gives you a chance to decide if you want an outfit to have some “fun” in. For example, you might want to wear your prom dress and play in the water. Or use the parachute dress (check out Sarah Lindsay’s instagram for examples!) and capture some unique, fun pictures. What's Your Vision For Your Senior Pictures?
With socialietal standards I know your vision can be altered. You might see something on Instagram and just want to fit that model when it might not be exactly what you want. Ugh, social media... such a positive, but can be so hard too. We hope that when you are picking out those outfits, you stick to what you want and what fits how you want your pictures to be. It can be helpful to ask yourself as you are searching for outfits “does this fit what I want?” Senior pictures are meant to remember who you are in this moment- not what society wants seniors to be. Your vision is most important and we strive to keep that vision at the forefront! Just make sure it's the forefront of picking those outfits out as well.
Do I Have To Have 4 Or 5 Outfits?
Quick answer, absolutely not. If you only want three outfits or have six outfits, we will make it work! Don’t stress! If you only have 3 outfits and that is what you picture your shoot including, don’t feel pressured to find another outfit that might not really fit with your vision. Stick with what you feel most confident and beautiful in. Sometimes it's hard to find those confidence boosting outfits, so if you only feel your most beautiful in three different outfits, that is 100% okay! The four or five outfits is just a guide to help you have a place to start. Otherwise, you get to be as imaginative as you want. This is your shoot!!
