Sometimes, the glamorous photos are amazing. Actually most of the time they are amazing. But let’s talk about the underrated pictures. The simple ones. The ones that show off your personality in just one shot. The photos that elicit so many emotions in just one picture. Those are the pictures that I absolutely love. They are my favorite and I thought they should be highlighted on this blog today!! 1. Close Ups: I love the close up picture. No special background, props or wind in the hair. The standard, close up of your beautiful face in the studio. I love these pictures for a few different reasons. One, it’s just you. Just you and your beautiful self. Nothing is better than highlighting your true beautiful self and in these pictures there is nothing to distract from you. Everyone wants the glimmer and glam for their senior pictures, but pictures like these are always underrated but honestly they’re my favorite! 2. Candid: I love pictures that are candid. You don’t know when the camera is going to snap a picture and let’s be honest, a lot of the time those pictures are the best. I love seeing true character in people shining through. I love to see true smiles and I love to see goofy faces. All of these things are the reason I think candid pictures are so underrated. I also love these pictures when they’re with a friend. You can capture your relationship and really remember the friendship you had at that time of your life. I think capturing candid pictures just makes that time of life feel more real. So lean into the candid pictures and be sure you fully embrace them- you won’t regret it. 3. Support your high school: I love love love senior pictures with their letterman jacket. It seems so old school and let’s face it, not many people think to take pictures with their jackets. But if you do choose to take these pictures, I think they’re definitely worth it. It’s important to remember all of your accomplishments in high school and it’s important to remember all the good times you had and maybe even the harder times. Having pictures in your letterman jacket just keeps those memories in your mind and it’s important to always have those memories. So many people tell me they’re upset they didn’t take those pictures. Don’t make that mistake! Bring your high school gear and let’s take those pictures!

When it comes to senior pictures there ares so many things you should do. But what about the mistakes? Trust me, I see three common mistakes people make when it comes to senior pictures. I really don’t want you to make those same mistakes so I’m here to lay them out for you. Read carefully then when you’re off to have your senior pictures done, be sure you keep these three things in mind so that you don’t make the same mistakes so many other people make. 1. It’s just a few pictures: Be sure when you’re taking your senior pictures and ordering them, don’t try to convince yourself that you only need a few pictures. These are your senior pictures and this is a celebration of your last year in high school! Celebrate this moment and keep in mind all your have accomplished to get to this point. When you’re looking through your pictures, pick every picture that you love. Don’t just get a few… be sure you get a lot, especially the ones you really love. This is a reward for you so be sure you really take advantage of all the beautiful pictures. It would be really sad if you thought “man, I wish I had ordered more pictures.” 2. Outfits: These are your senior pictures! Don’t just buy any old outfit or choose an outfit you’ve had for years collecting dust in the closet. Make sure you go out and find an outfit that really sparkles. This is the most important photo shoot you’ll have until you get married. So take the time to be sure you really find an outfit that speaks to you, makes you feel amazing and makes you feel like your true authentic self. If you really love that sparkly dress but you’re not sure if you should get it… GET IT! Branch out and be sure you really find something you love. If you feel like a million dollars on the day of your senior pictures then your pictures will look like a million dollars. Don’t make the mistake of just having some random outfit you really don’t love. 3. Waiting too long: Here is the biggest mistake people make with their senior photos. This is the mistake I see most often and it’s honestly the hardest mistake to make. The one thing you should absolutely not do is wait to long to contact a photographer. Most senior picture photographers are booked and sessions have started by the time July comes around. I am heart broken every year because we have to turn away so many seniors just because our calendar is already booked. It’s always better to get on the calendar early. Not only will you have more dates to pick from but you won’t feel rushed during your senior picture photo shoot. I’d always say to book around spring break of your Junior year. Then your senior pictures are booked and ready to go by the time summer comes around. Trust me… You’ll be so much happier if you do!! Tell me in the comments… What are some things you think you should do for your senior pictures? I want to hear all of the things you’re doing to get ready for your big day!!
You all know the standard senior photo poses. Leaned against a tree, close up of your face and of course near water. Everyone has these kinds of pictures and yes they are gorgeous! But… what if I told you there are some poses you didn’t even know you needed? I‘m here to highlight the poses that most seniors don’t think of and honestly they usually feel a little silly doing. But then when they look at the end result the pictures are breathtaking. So, if you trust me… keep reading then see if some of these poses are something you’d want for you senior picture experience! 1. In the water: Most people get their pictures taken by the water. Water is so timeless and makes any picture look amazing. It sparkles, creates movement and compliments any outfit choice you pick. But have you ever thought of taking a picture in the water? It might seem crazy but it takes water pictures to the next level. You have to be ok with your outfits getting wet so it’s best to take these pictures last. And you have to be relaxed and embrace the weirdness of it. Some girls are uncomfortable in the water and that’s totally ok but if you’re willing to try… you won’t be disappointed. Some girls decide to just stand in the water, some girls decide to sit by it and put their feet in. I’ve had some girls even go as far as to lay in the water. No matter your comfort level, this is one pose idea I would definitely recommend. 2. Laying down… backwards: Now hear me out on this… I’m sure you’re saying what the heck are you talking about? I’m talking about pictures with you laying down and I’m photographing your face upside down. Weird right? But trust me when I say these pictures turn out beautifully. Every time I tell clients I want to take pictures like this they all kind of giggle. They aren’t sure what to think but it never fails that these are pictures that are always ordered. I like these pictures because they’re so unique, beautiful and timeless. All characteristics you want in your senior pictures wrapped into one photograph. So if you’re getting your senior pictures done and I’m taking your pictures upside down, don’t fret! You’ll be so happy with the result. 3. Mother, Daughter: Here is the thing… senior pictures are about you and I definitely want to highlight all you’ve accomplished on this day. But what if I said, something you’ll definitely want that you probably haven’t thought of is mother, daughter pictures. Your mom has been the person for you since the day you were born. She’s your biggest cheerleader, greatest advocate and the person who loves you the most. Document that through mother, daughter portraits. Trust me, these pictures are something you will hold onto and treasure forever. Your mom will also treasure those pictures forever. When you book with me, all VIP seniors get a complimentary mother, daughter portrait session scheduled at a later date. Take advantage of that and embrace the day with your mother. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. Tell me in the comments which pose you need to have that you never knew you needed? Hard to choose just one huh? There are so many more so if you need more ideas, let’s chat!! Click the button and let’s be in touch.
I’m still not over Taylor Swift being in Denver. I’m so sad I couldn’t be at the concert and for the last couple weeks I’ve been having my own concert at home. And let’s talk about all the videos on Instagram!! So in order to continue on my Taylor Swift obsession lately, I thought let’s make this blog a tribute to Taylor Swift. I want to talk about senior pictures, but Eras edition. So… in true Taylor fashion… Are you ready for it? DebutWho doesn’t love the debut? Plus… let’s talk about all of the outfit choices you could pick if you wanted to mimic the debut album vibe for your senior pictures. I love the idea of curls in your hair or a sweet white dress with boots. Take your photos during golden hour and you can be in Taylor Swift debut album heaven. What do you think? I think whatever you choose to wear, you’ll Stay Beautiful if you go with this era for your senior pictures. FearlessThe Fearless era is iconic in my mind. So channeling this era in your senior pictures, might have you looking more bold. I’m thinking yellows, glitter or even romantic… Love Story anyone? Even if you can’t find an outfit that screams the Fearless era, you could even get that same romantic vibe from the scenery. Golden hour would be perfect for this era. Speak nowIf someone were to ask me what my favorite era was I’d have to say Speak Now. It’s magical… every song is amazing and there are so many outfits you could wear to have the same feeling Speak Now brings. Purple is what comes to mind and what is more magical than our purple parachute dress? If you are a Swifty and want to mimic Taylor’s Speak Now era you have to have that parachute dress. All VIP seniors have access to the parachute dresses so be sure you sign up as a VIP ☺️ redI feel like this is when Taylor Swift started to get a little edgier… and I think red is the perfect color when it comes to edginess. Be sure you have the hat if you want, red lipstick, and maybe go vintage. If that’s not your style but you still want Taylor Swift in your senior pictures, opt for a red dress. An homage to a great era but making it your own is exactly what a cute red dress would do. I think Red is a perfect era for seniors about to embark on their next adventure. Red for Taylor Swift is when she started to figure out her sound and adulthood. So are you… on your way to adulthood and figuring things out as you go. Your path might be Treacherous but it will be worth it! I promise. 1989This era is Taylor’s move to pop completely. So if this is the era you’re really wanting in your senior pictures step away from the cow girl boots and cute sundresses. Think of crop tops and more fitted clothes. I think of this era as something fun too! Jeans, crop tops, tennis shoes… dancing around. All of these you can incorporate in your senior pictures and have the same vibe as this Taylor Swift era. reputationIf you want edgy, then this is for you. If you’re someone who wants a little more sass in their senior pictures then I would look to this era for inspiration. Leather, black, glitter, deep reds. All of these colors and textures will help you to create a beautiful but also feisty style that perfectly compliments the Reputation era. A word of caution if you are going to go the Reputation era vibe for your senior pictures.. make sure you are comfortable. If you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable because it’s truly not you then maybe choose another one or modify it. You don’t want to be uncomfortable in your senior pictures. They wont’ turn out the way you hope and I want you to love your pictures! loverWhen I think of the Lover era, I think of pink and pastels. When I think of pink and pastels the first thing I think of- again is our pink parachute dress. Like I said in the Speak Now era, the parachute dress is magical just like this era. I love the pink parachute dress. Not only is it stunning but it is the original Sarah Lindsay Parachute dress. VIP seniors have access to this beautiful dress and I think it gives off Taylor Swift vibes like crazy. Hurry and schedule as a VIP before spots run out! folklore/EvermoreWhen it comes to pop-folk this is the era that is the epitome of pop-folk. Taylor Swift graced us with this era during COVID and I love the indie forest vibe of this era. I did group Folklore and Evermore together because they’re both so similar and they both came out so close together. The good thing about this era is living in Colorado, we can definitely get this look just by going to the mountains for your senior pictures. Add in a plaid shirt or an oversized sweater and cuffed jeans and you’ve got the perfect indie vibe for your senior pictures. I think accessories help too. Hats, scarves, glasses… all of these accessories add to the folklore feeling but will also be timeless for years to come. midnightsI don’t know much about this era because it’s still so new and let’s be honest… I grew up listening to the older Taylor Swift music. But I love that Midnights is an album that takes the best of all her other albums and puts it into one. So if you want to channel Midnights, pick the era you love the most and go all out. Add a splash of deep blue to your outfit or some darker glitter and you can combine Midnights with another era. I think this take on Taylor Swift will give you a modern looking vibe to your senior pictures and you will definitely be able to make this era your own. I’d love to take your senior pictures!! Be sure you reach out sooner than not because spots are filling quickly. I’d love to talk with you and get to know you more. Click the button to get started. Before you do that, be sure you let me know in the comments what era of Taylor Swift you’d want to have for you senior pictures.
